If you happen to be travelling on the Fivelweg in Zijldijk one of these days, you cannot miss the work that is being carried out on two residential blocks. Van Wijnen is currently working on the reinforcement and insulation of five properties, where QuakeShield is applied as well. A group of almost 40 people is working on the building site to improve the structural reinforcement and sustainability of the properties of housing association Marenland over a period of 6 to 8 weeks.
For Van Wijnen, it is the first time that this form of structural reinforcement has been applied, but for the contractor it does not involve any additional tension. QuakeShield proves to be a concept that can be deployed with relative ease, and which can improve the structural reinforcement of a property rapidly and effectively. The application of QuakeShield took just a few days in Zijldijk!
It is striking that the carbon strips and the recognisable green tough elastic adhesive are only visible in a few small areas in the façade of the property. The surface requiring treatment to make the structure earthquake-proof differs for each type of building. In this case, it was enough to treat several parts of the front and rear façade.
Zero energy consumption
In addition to making the structure in Zijldijk earthquake-proof, Van Wijnen is ensuring that the properties are rapidly converted in such a way that their energy consumption is reduced to zero. This means that the occupants are able to generate an equal amount of energy (or more) themselves. In reality, this means that the façades of the properties are insulated and that the roofs are fitted with solar panels.
A new façade is built around the original wall, as a result of which an additional insulation layer can be applied between the brickwork. The images show that QuakeShield has been applied in the original façade, around which a new façade was built. This way, Van Wijnen and QuakeShield ensure that the occupants can live in their property carefree and sustainably for many years to come!
