The activities listed below have been co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund and the provinces of Groningen, Fryslân and Drenthe.

Van Wijnen, QuakeShield and Urgenda will jointly gain knowledge and experience in reinforcing properties and making them more sustainable at the same time. They will do so in a property purchased by Van Wijnen on the Rijksweg in Ten Post.  In the months ahead, new techniques will be applied at this private property. The three parties want to make an active and direct contribution to making the housing supply in the earthquake area safer and energy-neutral. An occupant is sought for the property who is willing to contribute ideas from the start and is willing to share experiences.

Positive counterbalance
“A great deal of negativity surrounds the earthquake issue in Groningen land. In order to offer a positive counterbalance, we want to use the sustainable property in Ten Post to show that we can offer solutions and are happy to tackle the issue with the people in Groningen”, says Peter Hutten, regional manager of Van Wijnen Noord. Many of the properties that have to be reinforced are of the type that we have purchased. Together with our partners, we want to invest in knowledge and experience in order to make the area safer and more liveable.”

Special partnership
“The property is reinforced from the inside with QuakeShield”, says Peter Westra from QuakeShield. “This has little impact on the immediate living space, but it makes a positive contribution straight away in terms of safety and a reduction in claims. It is simple, safe and can be applied quickly to each property type, with short lead times. The product is scientifically validated and has been applied successfully several times.”

The special cooperation is supported enthusiastically by Urgenda. Marjan Minnesma: “It is high time that people in Groningen received something positive. To me, an energy-neutral property seems to be a great step in the right direction.”
